The Raider Boys Basketball team didn’t play their best game on Friday night, but they showed toughness when it counted and held off a very game Walnut Ridge squad 55-50.
After a closely contested first quarter that saw Reynoldsburg up 27-24 at Halftime, the Scots opened the second half with a 16-6 run to take a 40-33 lead. The Raiders didn’t panic though and responded with a 13-2 run of their own to regain control and were able to hold on from there. Juniors Tre Williams Jamiel Goliday scored 15 and 12 points respectively for the Raiders, each with critical baskets in the late third quarter run. Von Cameron Davis scored a game-high 23 points for Walnut Ridge.
Friday night marked the final home game for this season as the District Semi-Finals now move to a neutral site. The Raiders (18-6) next take on the St. Charles Cardinals (22-2) on Wednesday (March 8th) at 7pm. The game will be held at Worthington Christian’s home court at their Middle School (NOT High School) and site of Grace Polaris Church – 8225 Worthington-Galena Rd, Westerville.
The game represents a rematch of the season opener for both teams, where the Raiders never trailed in defeating St. Charles 53-43. The Cardinals have gone 22-1 since then though and come in as the slightly higher seeded team. This promises to be a great game and the winner will advance to the District Finals on Saturday, March 11th at Ohio Domincan University.
