News · Girls Soccer’s Senior Night Victory

Tuesday night Harry Head was down in Ato Boldon Stadium, Trinidad covering the USMNT and their lackadaisical effort and ignominious 2-1 defeat. He assigned his junior  cub reporter Curly Head to cover the Senior Night festivities in Baldwin Soccer Stadium. In the end Harry would rather had switched the assignments as Baldwin was a happy event.

Three seniors were given a festive send off. Brooklynn Golden, Shayna Newsom and Emily Snedegar were recognized for their efforts in building a proud Reynoldsburg soccer tradition and thanked for this year’s team leadership. All three were the 2017 captains.

The starting line depicted in this article’s opening picture finds Ry Buck in #9 position and Caitlyn McKean as #10.  Alyssa Shiffman and Isa Fuentes occupied #’s 7 and 11. Holding down the defensive midfield in positions 8 and 6 were Alexus Langwasser and MaryKate Watkins. The back line was the hang out for all three seniors, Brooklynn Golden, Emily Snedegar and Shayna Newsom plus Julia Bazley.  Alissa Richmond occupied the #1 spot.

Lancaster plays with a sweeper making it hard to pop through balls in and run at the keeper, possession soccer is the answer. Passing moves the defense and that was your Purple Footies plan. Move the ball faster then the Gales could react. The first half was knotted 0-0 even with the Raiders’ relentless pressure.

The scoreless match was ended in the second half’s 13 minute. Good ball work and pressure earned a Raider corner kick. This year the Purple Footies have learned to love corners and compete hard to see which one will knock in the ball. Kendall Craiglow sent in her serve, jumping heads sent the ball towards goal, a Gale bumped it out to Isa Fuentes who passed it back to Cassidy Collins’ waiting foot. Cassidy did the rest. The Gales shouted the ball was out but in fact it was resting in the net. The winning goal belonged to Cassidy and the Raiders.

All that was left was solid possession football that ate clock and sent the Raiders on to victory extending their win streak.

Alissa Richmond stopped 3 shots as the team earned their 4th shut out.

Up next is Groveport Madison, Thursday October 12. JV starts 5:30 followed by the Varsity at 7:15pm. The team bus and fans should park at Eastland Career Center and go to the back, left hand corner.  There is a sign there pointing them to the path to the stadium. If they park at the HS entrance to the contest is very confusing.

Filling in for Harry,
